Swiss-Based ISO Grants KuCoin Privacy Information Certification Amid Industry Push for Compliance

The latest certification is the exchange’s third privacy and security certification, following the ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II recognitions earlier in the year. Leading global crypto exchange KuCoin has announced it has achieved the ISO 27701:2025 certification, showing the exchange’s commitment to establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving the privacy and security of users’ data. The certification from the Swiss-based International Standards Organization shows the company follows the international standard for Privacy Information Management Systems (PIMS). The latest certification follows previous certifications for KuCoin, including the 2022 ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II, enhancing the company’s commitment to privacy and user trust. The 2022 ISO 27001 certification shows that KuCoin met the international standard for Information Security Management Systems (ISMS), a framework for organizations to manage and protect sensitive user information by maintaining its confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The SOC 2 Type II certification shows Kucoin’s effectiveness in operational controls, meeting the criteria for managing customer data. The three certifications provide a strong framework for the exchange, showing KuCoin’s stability in offering the highest standards in privacy and its dedication to providing a secure and trusted exchange for all global customers. Praising KuCoin’s efforts in securing the ISO 27701 certification, Alexis Niu, Data Protection Officer at KuCoin, stated: "I am pleased to mark this [ISO 27701] certification as a key advancement in our privacy framework. This achievement affirms our Privacy Information Management System, featuring end-to-end data controls, thorough risk assessments, and responsive mechanisms to protect user information.” Aligning with the $2 Billion Trust Project It has been a busy and successful year for the exchange, so far, counting back to its application for the MiCAR license, launching its EU-based operations and appointing new leadership to KuCoin EU. However, its biggest unveil for 2025 has been the multi-year $2 billion Trust Project that marked a new era in the company’s quest to protect users’ funds, enhance trust and mitigate any security risks such as hacks and theft. The latest certification blends in well with the Trust Project’s vision of safeguarding users' data and assets. With the ISO 27701 certification, KuCoin exchange will be able to enhance transparency and advance user data protection in line with the Trust Project. “It reflects our steadfast dedication under the $2 Billion Trust Project to build a secure, compliant ecosystem where privacy is integral to earning and maintaining user trust,” Niu added on the impact of the certification on the Trust Project. Notwithstanding, the certification also builds on KuCoin's existing framework to implement robust privacy controls and enhance data security in line with global standards. The exchange incorporates privacy measures across the full data lifecycle—from collection and processing to storage and disposal. This minimizes risks like data breaches while empowering users with enhanced control over their personal information. Obtaining the three certifications clears the path for KuCoin to offer users a comprehensive, layered approach to security and privacy. The company introduces international standards for privacy and security, integrates proactive risk management, audited operational effectiveness, and a reliable environment for traders and investors. Regulatory Drives by KuCoin Exchange Amidst the global regulatory scrutiny on crypto exchanges, KuCoin is positioning the platform as a leader in the space through its $2 billion Trust Project. In the few months the project has been active, KuCoin has advanced platform reliability through multiple key initiatives and has deployed advanced features like internal data scans, encryption, and data desensitization. In addition, KuCoin also appointed Alexis Niu to lead its global data protection wing, introduced Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) tools to conduct reviews for research and development activities, and incorporated procurement risk assessments into the information system acquisition process. Finally, the exchange has also opened a user-review approach to its data management systems, allowing data subject rights responses via user applications supplemented by dedicated customer service support, and strengthened its data breach emergency response protocols.
