Japanese Giant Company Makes Surprise Ripple (XRP) Purchase Move – Here Are the Details

Japan-based mobile gaming company Gumi announced that it will purchase 25 billion yen (approximately $17 million) worth of XRP as part of its growth strategy in the blockchain and Web3 space. The company's board of directors announced the decision today. The acquisitions are planned to take place between September 2025 and February 2026. Gumi argued that the XRP purchase wasn't intended solely to capitalize on price appreciation, but rather as a step toward gaining a strategic position in international payment and liquidity networks. Gumi also announced that it purchased 10 billion yen (approximately $6 million) worth of Bitcoin (BTC) in the first half of 2025 and invested these assets in staking protocols like Babylon. The company plans to pursue a dual-pronged digital asset strategy, positioning BTC as a “global universal asset” and XRP as a “financial demand-driven network asset.” Drawing attention to the increasing usage areas of XRP, Gumi said that the growth of real demand, especially in financial infrastructures such as international money transfer and liquidity provision, makes XRP a strong investment tool in the medium and long term. The company announced that it will conduct a quarterly valuation of its cryptocurrencies and will disclose this to the public if there is a significant financial impact.
